In my experience, specifically off of Cigarpage and Cigarbid, I find the cigars sold in packs seem lower quality than those in boxes. A good example is the La Palina Red Label. I had a few from a box and then bought a 10 pack from Cigarpage. The ones in the pack seemed less nicely constructed, more mottled, lighter, and burned different with holes in the ash. Some of these packs actually come from the factory, as they have export stickers on them. I'd assume some packs are selected like seconds...
