I find a lot of people love the Pirastro Wondertone Gold Label E and swear by it like it's the Gospel. But for the money let me give you 3 options I find are very popular these days: 1.Westminster 27.5mm e String- When you need a lot of tone and power this is a go to string for a lot of people.

Gold A-, D- and G-strings are available in medium gauge. E-string is available in three gauges: soft (0.25mm), medium (0.26mm) and strong (0.27mm). Please also see E-strings. Gold A-strings have a ball-end, Gold D- and G-strings have a knot. E-string is available with ball or loop-end.

The Gold Label E although sweet, just seemed to weak compared to the other strings. My favorite string out of this set is the G. It just sounds so warm to me and I love a good warm E string. This is once again an update since I have a new violin. It's a Robert A. Corsby by Mark Moreland.
