40 ruger red label 12 gauge review

The only thing I can see it seems there are 2 different finishes a brushed and a satin grey. If anyone can give me a brief history on this ruger I would appreciate it. My first Red Label hunting experience was with a 12 gauge with 28-inch barrels, and while it was listed at 7.5 pounds, it tipped my postal scale at a couple of ounces shy of 8 pounds. I eventually got around to trying the 20-gauge version, also with 28-inch barrels, and it too exceeded its catalog weight by several ounces.

A Red Label was on the list. It was the first one eliminated too. Indeed the 28 ga Veloce is built on the 20 ga frame, but it is an alloy receiver with a hardened insert on the face of the receiver. I have a friend who has a 28 ga Ruger and seems to like it fine, I have shot it a bit but it didn't light my fire any more than the 20 ga did ... The actual weight of the gun tested is 7 pounds 14 ounces, essentially the same as the last Red Label 12 gauge I reviewed in 2009. It doesn't handle or point appreciably differently and that isn't a bad thing. It is a softer shooter, but due only to the better recoil pad. The last Red Label had just a hard piece of thin rubber for a butt plate.

I had a 12 ga black synthetic with 28" stainless barrels. The pad was like a rock. Put a kickeze on it and it made a great difference. I've owned plenty of Red Labels Paul, but don't own one of the new ones. If I was in the market for a 12 ga over and under and had limited funds I would be all over a new Red Label with 30 tubes. Just my thoughts.
