Chief among those gnat stings was the two-piece receiver. In 1979, Ruger began to offer the Red Label in 12 Gauge and eventually a scaled-down version in 28 Gauge (1994). The design was born of William B. Ruger's desire to produce a quality US made over and under shotgun.

I got to shoot my dads 12g Ruger Red Label (first generation) over the weekend. 75 rounds. And my shoulder is hurting I normally shoot a Remington 1100 competition. So I know I’m going from a very soft shooting auto, with a recoil buffer and big soft pad, to a over under with nothing to help the recoil. That’s the first O/U I’ve gotten to shoot more then a pair here and there. Does the Ruger have a reputation of kicking like a mule?
